Paraffin price per litre

The DMPR publishes two paraffin prices each month: the wholesale price, and the single maximum national retail price (SMNRP), the most a retailer may charge households. On 2 September 2026 the wholesale price rose R2.13 a litre and the SMNRP rose R2.84 a litre.

For bulk buyers, the price depends on volume and delivery distance. We publish every monthly change on our fuel price page.

Paraffin and diesel never mix

Illuminating paraffin is taxed far less than diesel, which makes it the most common adulterant in dirty diesel. SARS marks paraffin so that it can be detected in diesel. We keep the two separate in storage and transport, and every paraffin delivery is documented as paraffin, so there is never a question about what went where.

Who uses illuminating paraffin

  • Retailers and distributors selling to households for cooking, heating and lighting.
  • Industry: parts cleaning, degreasing and as a solvent.
  • Heating and burners designed for kerosene.
  • Agriculture: paraffin heaters and lamps on farms.

Paraffin safety

Store paraffin in sealed containers made for fuel and clearly labelled, never in cooldrink bottles. Keep it away from children, flames and heat. Use stoves and heaters designed for paraffin, in a ventilated room, and never refill an appliance while it's lit. Retailers can ask us for the safety data sheet.

Paraffin: questions buyers ask

Not answered here? Ask us on WhatsApp

What is the paraffin price per litre?

The DMPR sets a wholesale price and a single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin every month. We publish each month’s change on our fuel price page; bulk prices are quoted per order.

Where can I buy paraffin in bulk?

From a licensed wholesaler such as Fuel-It. Send us your volume, packaging and delivery town and we quote a delivered price.

Is paraffin the same as kerosene?

Illuminating paraffin is a kerosene. Jet A‑1 is also a kerosene, but made to a far tighter aviation specification; the two are not interchangeable.

Can paraffin be used in a diesel engine?

No. Mixing paraffin into diesel to sell as diesel is fraud, and it can damage fuel pumps and injectors. SARS marks paraffin so it can be detected.

Do you supply paraffin in 20 litre containers?

Tell us the volume and packaging you need and we confirm what we can supply in your area before you order.
