In shortA diesel bowser is a mobile fuel tank, usually on a trailer, that takes diesel to your machines. A static diesel tank stores fuel in one place. Fuel-It helps farms, mines, construction sites and fleets choose the right storage, sized to their usage, and keeps it filled with metered, sealed diesel deliveries.
The problem we solve
Without storage, every machine drives to a filling station, and every litre is bought at pump prices with no control over who used what. With the wrong storage you risk theft, contamination, a fire-safety failure or a fine.
The right tank pays for itself: bulk prices, less downtime, and a meter that tells you where every litre went.
What’s included
- Trailer bowsers. Mobile tanks that take diesel to plant and machines spread across a site or farm.
- Self-bunded static tanks. A tank within a tank: the outer shell contains a leak, which saves building a separate bund wall.
- Pumps, meters and nozzles. Electric or manual pumps with a meter, so every litre issued to a machine is recorded.
- Supply to keep it full. Scheduled diesel deliveries into your tank, metered and sealed, with a certificate of analysis.
What we offer
tank and bowser offer: sale, hire, or on loan with a supply contract; sizes available
Choosing the right size
Start from your monthly diesel usage and how often you want deliveries. As a rule of thumb, a tank should hold at least one delivery plus a buffer of a week's usage, so you never run dry waiting for the next load.
Common sizes run from trailer bowsers of about 1,000 to 2,000 litres up to static tanks of 23,000 litres and more. Tell us your usage and we'll recommend a size.
The rules for storing diesel on site
- Above-ground tanks for petroleum products follow SANS 10131; the installation and handling side follows SANS 10089.
- Bunding must contain a leak. The common rule is 110% of the largest tank's capacity; a self-bunded tank meets this by design.
- Most municipalities require a flammable-liquid certificate from the fire department before you store fuel above certain volumes.
- Earthing, signage, fire extinguishers and safe distances from buildings and boundaries are standard requirements.
This is orientation, not legal advice: confirm the requirements for your site with your municipality.

Questions buyers ask
What is a diesel bowser?
A mobile diesel tank, usually trailer-mounted, with a pump and nozzle, used to refuel machines where they work.
Do you sell or hire diesel tanks?
Tell us your usage and site and we’ll recommend storage. sale / hire / on loan with supply contract
What size diesel tank do I need?
At least one delivery’s volume plus about a week’s usage as a buffer. Send us your monthly usage and we’ll size it for you.
What is a self-bunded diesel tank?
A tank inside an outer tank. If the inner tank leaks, the outer shell contains the fuel, so you don’t need to build a separate bund wall.
Do I need permission to install a diesel tank?
Usually. Most municipalities require a flammable-liquid certificate, and the tank must meet SANS standards. Check with your municipality’s fire department first.
