93 or 95 octane?

Octane measures a petrol's resistance to knock. Use the octane your engine manufacturer specifies. 95 suits engines that call for it, including many turbocharged and high-compression engines. 93 is sold inland, where altitude lowers the octane most engines need; coastal markets run on 95.

For a fleet that runs between the coast and the interior, 95 covers both. We'll help you choose when you request a quote.

Lead replacement petrol (LRP)

LRP is petrol with an additive that protects the valve seats of older engines designed for leaded fuel. Classic vehicles, older farm machinery and some small engines still need it. Most engines built in the last twenty-five years do not.

Who buys petrol in bulk

  • Fleets with their own pumps: light delivery vehicles, sales fleets and security companies that fuel at the depot.
  • Farms and mines: bakkies, quad bikes, small engines and petrol generators on site.
  • Construction sites: compactors, cutters, pumps and small plant.
  • Licensed retailers: selling fuel from a forecourt needs site and retail licences under the Petroleum Products Act, so we supply licensed retailers only.

Storing petrol safely

Petrol gives off flammable vapour at any temperature you'll meet on site. Storage must follow SANS 10089 and SANS 10131 and your municipality's fire by-laws, which usually means a flammable-liquid certificate before the first delivery. Tanks need bunding, earthing, signage and fire extinguishers. Need storage? See tanks and bowsers.

Petrol pricing

Petrol is price-regulated in South Africa. The DMPR sets the pump price each month for inland and coastal zones, and it changes on the first Wednesday. On 2 September 2026 both 93 and 95 rose R1.34 a litre.

For bulk deliveries we quote the delivered price and any delivery charge upfront, valid for a stated period. See this month's figures on the fuel price page.

Petrol: questions buyers ask

Not answered here? Ask us on WhatsApp

Can I buy petrol in bulk for my own fleet?

Yes, if you have compliant storage on site. We deliver unleaded 93 and 95 and LRP into approved tanks, metered and sealed, with a certificate of analysis.

What is the difference between ULP and LRP?

ULP is unleaded petrol for modern engines. LRP, lead replacement petrol, contains an additive that protects the valve seats of older engines built for leaded fuel.

Do I need permission to store petrol on site?

Usually, yes. Most municipalities require a flammable-liquid certificate, and tanks must follow SANS 10089 and SANS 10131. Check with your municipality’s fire department before installing a tank. This is orientation, not legal advice.

How often does the petrol price change?

Every month. The DMPR adjusts regulated petrol prices on the first Wednesday of each month. We publish each change on our fuel price page the day it is announced.

Can you supply petrol to a service station?

We supply licensed retailers. A forecourt needs site and retail licences under the Petroleum Products Act before it can sell fuel to the public.
